Excellence in Micro-Propulsion and Micro-Energy Systems

The business area "Space Propulsion & Advanced Concepts" is performing cutting-edge research and development in the area of micropropulsion for space applications as well as advanced concepts for space and terrestrial spin-off applications.

Our mission is to provide our customers with enabling technologies and unique solutions. Examples of our developments include

  • The only space proven Liquid-Metal-Ion-Source to date, used for satellite charging compensators, in-flight mass spectrometers and as the core of Field Emisson Thrusters (FEEP) for ultraprecise attitude- and-orbit control
  • Green propellant chemical microthrusters with very competitive efficiencies
  • Advanced hydrogen storage concepts for future telecommunication satellites
  • The world's first finite-element-simulation software to compute Casimir forces for arbitrary 3D geometries
  • Characterization of frame-dragging fields around rotating superconductors
